Worthy state political appointees who will improve the public education system must be confirmed.
On January 24, Virginia Senate Democrats, who hold the majority, rejected Governor Glenn Youngkin’s most recent appointee, Meg Bryce, to the state’s Board of Education.
Ms. Bryce is a qualified candidate who has served as a volunteer on the Board of Education for several months preceding her confirmation hearing in January. She is a mother and college psychology teacher who has said she would like to serve on the Board to improve public education. To that end, she has criticized her public school district in Albemarle County, Virginia for lowering academic standards and ignoring parents.
Likely the real problem that Virginia Senate Democrats have with Ms. Bryce is that she is the daughter of the late conservative Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia. In fact, during the confirmation proceedings, Senate Democrats would not publicly state any substantive reasons for rejecting Ms. Bryce’s appointment.
In response to the Senate’s rejection of Ms. Bryce, Governor Youngkin is encouraging the Virginia House of Delegates to reinstate Bryce’s appointment, saying, “Virginians are looking to the House to right this wrong.”
Please encourage your delegate to right this wrong today by reinstating Meg Bryce’s appointment to the Virginia Board of Education. We need qualified and passionate educational advocates like Ms. Bryce looking out for Virginia parents and children.
