School Choice and the State Legislative Process

State legislative sessions are just around the corner. In fact, state legislators have begun filing bills, including education savings accounts (ESA) bills in Missouri and South Carolina. Bills that significantly expand education freedom are anticipated in many states, including Iowa, Ohio, Virginia, Utah, Idaho, and Texas.

If you are interested in learning more about how education proposals wind their way through state legislatures, please join this one-hour School Choice and the State Legislative Process webinar on Friday, December 16th at noon EST. We’ve worked closely with the webinar organizers to ensure that the content will be relevant and useful for IWN members.

A state senator from Iowa will kick off the webinar. Corey DeAngelis will give an overview of school choice and address common education freedom misconceptions. The American Federation for Children (AFC) state team will provide an “education state policy 101”: how bills move; following/tracking bills; and legislative engagement tactics. AFC staff will answer questions, providing a great opportunity for participants to share any concerns they have about school choice. Participants will then head into state breakout rooms to discuss state-specific topics like the legislative session dates, education committee chairs, and anticipated legislation (assuming Zoom cooperates).

Sounds interesting and informative, right? Sign up now!
