Stand for Women: Share Your Sorority Story

Women require spaces exclusively for females – spaces like sororities found on college and university campuses. These single-sex environments are crucial for young women, as they provide opportunities to connect with a supportive community, gain leadership experiences, and cultivate lasting friendships.

However, as society’s understanding of gender becomes less rigid, the authenticity of sisterhood spaces is under threat. A recent example at the University of Wyoming involved the Kappa Kappa Gamma (Kappa) sorority, which faced media attention when it admitted a biological male member identifying as female, going against its female-only policies. In response, some Kappa sisters united to take legal action in defense of their right to maintain a single-sex space.

These women, along with others who value and wish to protect sororities as private clubs exclusively for women, where they can thrive in safe and supportive environments, should not be compelled to include males and shoulder the burden of integration.

Preserving the existence of single-sex spaces, particularly women-only spaces, is a responsibility that lies with all of us in America.

We know that others are facing this in the future! Since many of you are former House members or have daughters, sisters, nieces or friends who may deal with the issue, we are hoping you’ll speak out and share your stories.

Are you a member of a sorority? Has anyone in your life experienced any impact from this from ? Do you believe that sororities should continue to remain vibrant, female-only spaces? We would love to hear your thoughts and experiences.\
