In 2024 Independent Womenās Network celebrated the launch of its new Virtual Chapter model. The Virtual Chapter on Effective Engagement with K-12 Public Schools held the first meeting in September. During the meeting, chapter members from across the nation discussed back-to-school issues, such as invasive forms schools use to violate studentās privacy, and how to best affect change in their local school districts. In subsequent meetings, the chapter held in-depth conversations and strategy sessions with notable contributions from guest speakers on topics including how to work with great teachers and administrators to improve public education and how the election results might affect education policy at the national, state, and local levels.
Stephanie Lundquist-Arora hosts the virtual chapter on the second Tuesday of every month.ā In the next monthly chapter meeting, our members will talk about how equity cancer has infected the public education system, why it matters, and what they can do to fight it at the grassroots level.ā
IWN National Chapter Director Christy Narsi made remarks about the new chapter model as well. āI am thrilled at the success of the first of many IWN Virtual Chapters! Our 40,000+ network members live all over the country and I can think of no better way to bring their voices, questions and ideas together. The synergy weāve created has set us up to make a major impact in 2025. Itās contagious!ā
