Leading Lady | Kristin Burke, IWN Chapter Leader

When I asked Kristin Burke, “Why do you want to start a chapter in Tulsa, Oklahoma?” she replied, “I recently discovered I’m the happiest when discussing policy and current events.” We love that Kristin simply figured out what puts a smile on her face, and now she is gathering other happy warriors to have some fun while getting battle-ready.

We asked Kristin…

Where do you live?

Glenpool, OK (just south of Tulsa)

How did you get involved with IWN?

I have had a passion for politics since living in the Northern Virginia area. I started out listening to WMAL every day and eventually saw some posts for IWN on social media. In 2016, my family and I moved to New Jersey. My best friend moved to Northern Virginia just as I moved away and I lovingly pestered her to attend every political event I found out about. She crossed paths with Carrie Sheffield and because they are both such kind and inspiring women, they hit it off and became friends! Carrie encouraged my friend to attend her local IWN chapter meeting. She eventually became a Chapter Co-Leader. She spoke so highly of the organization (confirming what I already thought about IWN) that it made me sad that there was not a chapter in New Jersey. I felt politically isolated and had no one to chat about politics with! After the pandemic, we moved to the beautiful state of Oklahoma. While I’m not as politically isolated here, God pressed it upon my heart that Tulsa needed an IWN chapter. After praying about it and putting it on my vision board, I reached out to make it happen! Oklahoma is a red state, but it will take work and action to keep it that way. We launch on July 22nd!

Where do you fit politically?

I have always leaned to the right and voted Republican, but I also espouse some Libertarian views (most notably when it comes to fiscal matters). I am the daughter of a retired Border Patrol agent, and grew up on a small ranch in South Texas, which has formed my strong opinion on strong borders. I’ve seen first-hand how dangerous illegal immigration is. I strongly believe that the 2nd amendment guarantees all the other amendments. I believe in American Exceptionalism. I am unapologetic in my patriotism and I WILL cry every time the Star Spangled Banner is played.

Have you changed politically over the years?

No. I was raised by two rather conservative parents- their politics and beliefs seemed like common sense to me! I haven’t changed politically, but I did learn to hide my beliefs from my peers for a very long time – as some points probably not as well as I thought. Especially in 2020, when I was watching cities burn, my neighbors had BLM signs in their yards, and the term “Nazi” was used to describe anyone that voted for President Trump or did fall into lockstep agreement with whatever the issue of the day was. I’m done hiding, though. My children are watching me and if I don’t show them how to stand up for what’s right, who will?

What do you consider the most important issues facing our country today?

Democrats and Republicans have moved further apart ideologically over the past few decades. This polarization is one of the most important issues facing our country today. My prayer is that Americans will open their eyes to see the corrupt agendas at play that seek to manipulate them and become active in rising up to challenge the status quo! The brain-washing at the hands of the powerful elites and universities must come to an end – we all saw during Biden’s presidency, the Emperor had no clothes.

How do you spend your free time?

Quality Time is my love language, so in my free time, I love spending time with my amazing husband – even mundane tasks like grocery shopping are fun with him! I love to spend time with my two teenagers. I am very blessed to have my parents live 2 blocks away, so I am very happy to spend time with them, as well. I like to read and listen to podcasts (I still listen to WMAL everyday). I attend church in Tulsa, and I am in a “Moms of Teens” small group through my church. I also like to travel! My best friend and I are embarking on a 2-week European vacation tomorrow!

How many members are in your Chapter?

So far, just me!

What are the main issue areas and goals of your Chapter?

Although I would like to poll the chapter once we launch and focus on the issues we, as a collective, are passionate about, I’d like for my chapter to focus on education in Oklahoma and embracing Gen Z. I have a child that will be starting high school in the fall. If there’s one thing the extreme left is good at, it is reaching our youth via the education system. We need to be better at it than they are and we need to focus on teaching our children how to think critically. Reaching out to the next generation and embracing them into the fold is the foundational work needed to keep this red state red. Let’s do the work!

Leading Lady | Erica Ramirez, New Mexico Voices Las Cruces Chapter Leader

Leading Ladies, an Independent Women’s Network initiative, showcases and honors women who make a significant impact in their communities and beyond. Join us in sharing their inspirational stories and celebrating their remarkable achievements.

When it comes to trailblazing for women’s causes, Erica Ramirez is a force to be reckoned with. Wife, mother, entrepreneur, speaker, preacher, and now activist–Erica has the grit and grace to take on the radical legislation in her home state of New Mexico; legislation that has ignored its citizens’ voices for years.

We asked Erica…

Where do you live?

Las Cruces, Arizona

How did you get involved with IWN?

I attended an Independent Women meeting with State Representative Jenifer Jones. I felt comfortable to give my opinion and Brianna Howard was one of the leaders present and she connected me with Christy Narsi. I respect what IWN stands for. I am honored to stand side by side with such brave women.

Where do you fit politically?

I am a conservative woman.
I am a God-fearing woman.
I am a proud American woman.
I am a Republican woman.

Have you changed politically over the years?

No. My family and I have always stood for truth and what is right. Therefore we have always been Republican.

What do you consider the most important issues facing our country today?

Obviously our educational system. Living along the border–immigration, and living in NM same-sex spaces is at risk.

If I have any I spend time outdoors. I like to garden. My family and friends often get together for crafts and meals. I am a pulpit minister so I spend most of my time reading. I have a special needs child who enjoys outdoor activities therefore I invest my free time outdoors.

Leading Lady | Sami Keddington, IWN Chapter Leader

Leading Ladies, an Independent Women’s Network initiative, showcases and honors women who make a significant impact in their communities and beyond. Join us in sharing their inspirational stories and celebrating their remarkable achievements.

Sami Keddington is a dedicated wife, mother, athlete and advocate. Sami was a professional disc golfer until she had enough with men being allowed in the women’s leagues, stealing their titles and opportunities. In response to the injustice she founded the Worldwide Disc Golfer Organization, creating a space where professional female disc golfers can compete fairly. Sami trains men and women in the mental and physical aspects of disc golf, tirelessly promoting the sport and standing up for her beliefs.

We asked Sami…

Where do you live?

Chandler, Arizona

How did you get involved with IWN?

I was invited by Christy Narsi to a private event with Riley Gaines. I had just started working on a project to unite and protect women’s disc golf. At that time I had very little contacts in the Women’s Rights world. I was very discouraged and had been through a lot. I wanted to quit every day. When I met Christy it felt like I could breathe again. I wasn’t alone on this journey and I had like-minded people just waiting to meet me. I quickly became as involved as possible. We are launching the Chandler Chapter and I have been given the great task of leading it. IWN has been a Godsend and I am forever thankful.

Where do you fit politically?

In the past I have struggled with this decision. I honestly think I can identify at times with different views and I believe we need both parties. After becoming more educated with IWN I am certain that I am a Conservative Republican. I think about politics as a pendulum. Right now that pendulum is so far one way that it will take radical change to even get it back to a middle ground. I will vote for Trump and stand as a Republican with the intention to help bring that pendulum back to its center.

Have you changed politically over the years?

Yes. I was registered as a Libertarian at one point. Though I have always voted Republican, I do feel like some of my opinions in the past may have aligned with the Libertarian Party. As a younger woman, I may have let some of my family and friends influence that decision. Honestly I am not a huge fan of the two party system, yet every other system seems much worse. Today it has never been more clear to me that I am a Conservative Republican.

What do you consider the most important issues facing our country today?

The most important decision we face today is the child trafficking and indoctrination of the woke agenda. Every single detail we face as adults can be directly drawn back to our youth and family of origin. Right now our children are in public schools being told things that would never be okay for adults to hear. Foreign children are being trafficked in by open borders and put into abusive situations here in America. We are being lied to about what is going on by the news and our children are being told to lie to us. Child trafficking rates are at an all time high. Most people don’t understand how trafficking works, that it starts by “grooming” which social media now does for free. Americans are so busy with phones, fake news and social media, we are not even talking to each other anymore for fear of “offending” one another.

We must educate our children so they can grow up with the knowledge to see for themselves and not fall into the mind-hijacking trap of this political agenda doomed to groom our children. The first step is to educate ourselves. This is where Independent Women’s Network comes in. #IWN

How many members are in your Chapter?

Just me at this time

What are the main issue areas and goals of your Chapter?

Locally speaking we need to focus on school choice as our main issue. My son and many other families I know benefit from school choice and our governor is trying to erase it. The ultimate goal is to get more members educated on the real issues at hand and teach them how to get involved at a level they are comfortable with.

How do you spend your free time?

When I am not competing in women’s disc golf or working on my non-profit disc golf organization I love to take trips with my family. We love skiing, mountain bikinge, UTV’s and boating. We are a huge outdoors family. Any chance we get we are up north enjoying the cooler weather or at the beach in Texas!! We are very lucky to have family in many different states that we get to visit!
