Peoria Unified School District introduced draft revisions to its nondiscrimination and women’s privacy policies, defining “sex” as an individual’s biological classification. The policy, presented at the February 27, 2025 board meeting, would restrict restroom, locker room, and overnight accommodations to students of the same biological sex, with exceptions for accommodations.
“The last four years I have advocated as a mother to ensure a safe environment for all students in the Peoria Unified School District. Now, as Peoria School Board President, I will use my voice to support biological reality in private spaces. Respecting a woman’s privacy is not just a matter of personal boundaries, but a fundamental right that honors her autonomy, dignity, and the freedom to live without undue scrutiny in private spaces. I look forward to the next Peoria School Board meeting!” said IWN Member and School Board President, Heather Rooks.
The Board will have their second reading of the Women’s Privacy Policy on Thursday, March 13, 2025, at 6:00 p.m.
“The last two years I have strived to lead with excellence both in the boardroom as well as throughout my campaign in promoting such things as school safety, increased academic achievement, parental rights, teacher advocacy and most of all fighting for the next generation. As a board member, I have one goal, and that is, to leave for a generation better than I have been given. I am not a politician, I am a patriot. Politicians run after seats, I run after generations!” said Janelle Bowles, IWN Member and PUSD Board Member.
