Independent Women’s Network Rhode Island Chapter Leader Joins Congressional Protect Kids Caucus Roundtable in Washington, D.C.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, Rhode Island Chapter Leader Nicole Solas of Independent Women’s Network (IWN) and mother of two young children joined several members of Congress for the Protect Kids Caucus “Back to School” roundtable in Washington, D.C. to discuss how to combat the sexualization of children in schools and society.

Solas entered the political arena after the teachers union sued her for submitting public records requests about Critical Race Theory and gender theory in Rhode Island schools. For the past year, Solas has been in litigation defending her fundamental right as a parent to know what public school is teaching and also defending her First Amendment right as an American citizen to ask the government what it’s teaching. In February 2022, Solas joined other local leaders to launch the Rhode Island Chapter of IWN, a grassroots membership network created to build a supportive community for women and to give them the tools they need to make a positive difference in their neighborhoods and our country.

During the roundtable, Solas said, “My elementary school told me that they do not call children boys and girls, they refrain from using gendered terminology, and that they embed the values of gender identity into the classroom in every grade.”

“My school district has a policy that parents cannot know that their daughter thinks she is a boy or son thinks he is a girl if the school and student together decide that it would not be safe to tell the parents that their child is having an identity crisis, which is rife with suicidality,” she added. “So the school keeps life-threatening secrets from parents on the unfounded basis that parents are dangerous, and this is all done under the banner of non-discrimination according to the school’s Transgender and Gender Expanisve Non-Discrimination Policy. This policy is in all schools in Rhode Island since 2018.”

U.S. Representative Debbie Lesko (R-AZ), who launched the Protect Kids Caucus last May, said, “I was proud to launch the Protect Kids Caucus to raise awareness about the alarming push to sexualize young children and protect children’s innocence. As many families send their kids back to school, it is my hope that this caucus and our roundtable can make parents more aware of how schools may be sexualizing and indoctrinating their children and how they can combat this dangerous agenda.”

Other parent participants included Ginny Gentles, director, Education Freedom Center at Independent Women’s Forum; Carrie Lukas, president, Independent Women’s Forum; Brandon Michon, Loudoun County, VA parent; and Chris Elston, parent fighting gender transition surgeries.
