New York legislators introduced a bill that would allow men in women’s prisons.
New York Senate Bill 1049 would house incarcerated individuals based on their “gender identity,” opening the door to men entering women’s prisons. New York tried to do this in 2023 and failed. Let’s not let it pass this time.
The risks posed by this legislation should be obvious. In other states, allowing male offenders to reside in women’s prisons has resulted in sexual assaults of female inmates and pregnancies.
Incarcerated women need and deserve female-only spaces. Allowing male offenders to reside in women’s prisons is dangerous and unfair. Put simply, it’s cruel and unusual punishment.
Don’t allow this to happen in New York. Tell your leaders to stand with New York women and say NO to Senate Bill 1049.
