On Monday, February 7, 2025 Independent Women member Melissa Money-Beecher testified in support of the Stand With Women Act. Inspired by Independent Women’s Stand With Women legislative options, this sex-definition model in Nebraska would codify an earlier Women’s Bill of Rights executive order by Governor Jim Pillen to protect the existence of single-sex spaces, such as rape crisis centers, domestic violence shelters, prisons, athletic teams, locker rooms, and sororities.
Melissa testified, “This clarity is crucial. Some in my community have asked why I would take such a strong stance. My answer’s simple. It’s the right thing to do. Our state needs to do something about it so my granddaughter and all girls have the same opportunity I had to play sports. Fairness matters, no matter the stakes.”
