On Saturday, September 21, 2024, the Independent Women’s Network West Valley, Arizona Chapter, met to discuss issues facing Arizonan women. West Valley, AZ consists of several communities west of the Phoenix, AZ, city limits. It is a growing area, with lots of entertainment, outdoor recreation, housing, health and fitness, rich in sports and arts and culture that attract families.
Pamela McDonald, the West Valley, AZ Chapter Chairman says, “Our Chapter is dedicated to raising awareness about issues that threaten faith, family and the nation. We seek to empower women to make a positive impact by advocating for policies that support conservative values while fostering a strong sense of community. Our goal, priority and commitment is to ensure every woman’s voice is heard and valued.”
As the visionary leader behind this new Arizona Chapter, Pamela serves on the Black Arizona State Council as their House of Community Representative. Prior to being an Arizona resident, she lived in Chicago where she was esteemed as one of Chicago’s influential figures, honored by Today’s Chicago Woman magazine as one of the “100 Women Making A Difference.”
The Chapter used their meeting as a time to discuss the needs of women and children in their communities. Of immediate concern is the Perryville Women’s Prison in Goodyear, AZ. Most Arizonans are not aware of the potential of a male takeover of the women’s prison. According to Arizona law, a male can be placed in a female-only prison on a case-by-case basis.
The Independent Women’s Forum recently launched a series of documentaries featuring the stories of female inmates who have been housed with males. One female inmate’s parole was revoked after she criticized a law allowing male offenders to be housed in women’s prisons, leaving her behind bars for another five years.
The West Valley, AZ Chapter has refused to stand by and do nothing while female inmates lose their rights to safety and privacy.
“The West Valley, AZ Chapter has shown great courage and resolve on behalf of all women. We are proud to call Pamela McDonald and her Chapter members partners in the fight for women’s safety, opportunities and freedoms” said Christy Narsi, IWN National Chapter Director. “I have no doubt this powerful group of 24 (and counting!) ladies will carry out the IWN mission at the highest level. What a thrill to see the Chapter taking off so quickly!”
